What is the UIAGM? The UIAGM is the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations – and their qualification is the highest professional award attainable in mountaineering. It is recognised throughout the world, and in France and Switzerland it is also a legal requirement for anyone taking clients into the mountains on or above glacier level, whether climbing or skiing.

The UIAGM writes, “To achieve the IFMGA carnet takes tremendous dedication to mountaineering and a high level of skill in all aspects of the sport – rock climbing, ice climbing, alpine climbing and Ski Touring. It also requires a portfolio of climbing experience which takes years to acquire.”

If you are a confirmed off-piste skier, James Kaler can take you down some of the best off-piste routes, couloirs and snow fields in Chamonix, Courmayeur, and Les Contamines, and can also provide off-piste instruction if you need to improve your technique.

If you ski off-piste, then no ski trip to Chamonix is 100% complete unless you ski the infamous Vallée Blanche – our 24km long itinerary ski route from the Aiguille du Midi down the glacier through majestic scenery, past towering seracs and hidden crevasses.
